  1. Rascal Flatts' "My Wish"  It's about hopes and dreams for the future....

I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow,

and each road leads you where you want to go,

and if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,

I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.

and if one door opens to another door closed,

I hope you keep on walkin' 'til you find the window,

    if it's cold outside,

show the world the warmth of your smile,

but more than anything, more than anything,

My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,

your dreams stay big, your worries stay small,

You never need to carry more than you can hold,

and while you're out there getting where you're getting to,

I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,

    Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,

all the ones who love you, in the place you left,

I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,

and you help somebody every chance you get,

Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,

and always give more then you take.

But more than anything, Yeah, and more than anything,

My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,

your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,

You never need to carry more than you can hold,

and while you're out there getting where you're getting to,

I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,

    Yeah, this, is my wish.

may all your dreams stay big

    (Repeat)

  2. What about, Rascal Flatts, My Wish?

  3. I dont have a good relationship with my father either

but when I was planning my wedding I was going to have the song by George Strait: Love without end, Amen

  4. First off, "Barbara" needs to stop being judgmental. She doesn't know where you are coming from and this forum isn't for bashing...it's for helping.

Anyways, I really liked the suggestion of the "Potato/Pototo" song. That might help ease the tension of dancing with a dad that you love but don't really have a relationship with (I am the same way with my dad).  It's cutsie and fun.

  5. listen to Kelly Clarkson " A Moment Like This"  Its something different and less traditional, but still a bit moving, even though dad and you haven't been so great, that day should be something special.  of course this is coming from a dad with 2 girls also, hehehehe, listen to that song though.

  6. Check out this site , http://wedsongs.blogspot.com which have a ton of wedding songs that you can choose from be it, first dance, cake-cutting,march-in or others..

It has videos/lyrics of the wedding songs as well.

Please rate my post if it is helpful.

    Thanks,

  7. "Dance with My Father" by Luther Vandross!!!

  8. Kenny Rogers "Through the Years" seems appropriate for your situation.

  9. I totally know what you mean. I am in the same situation. All the songs were too lovey and personal for my relationship with my dad. We do not have a good father/daughter relationship but are trying to form a friendship over the past few years. I do want to have him for my father daughter dance though and I just decided to go with a not-too-personal song that has a good modern rythem.

I chose "Daughters" by John Mayer

  10. I would get a song with no words, just the music, that way you aren't listening to the words and thinking "Yeah my a$$". I did not have dancing at my reception. Did not need it we were all talking & eating the whole time.

Let him pick the song :)

Thinking about that idea, I think it will make him feel involved if you ask him to choose it, it will be a surprise too. As you get older your Dad and you will get closer, it always happens, did to me. Now i kinda wish i had danced with him, he is 79 now...... Just reading the words from the first poster made me cry.

  11. I hate to tell you this, but you need to know that your post makes you sound like a selfish brat who has no compassion or feelings for others.

In fact, you CAN dance to a sweet song - if only for appearances.

Honey, life isn't going to go your way - even on your wedding day. Period.

I suggest you step back and take a good, hard, look at yourself and make some real changes in your attitude.

Swallow your pride and Dance with the man. Pick a sweet, song and dance with the man.

  12. Try "Unchained Melody" by the Rightous Brothers.  It's just the nicest song that was used in the movie "Ghost".

  13. pick a song from your childhood that you have fond memories of. the father-daughter dance is not about telling your guests the kind of relationship that you had- the song itself doesn't even have to be about the relationship between the two of you in terms of its lyrics, but it should represent something to you--specifically with regards to growing up.

    Examples:

if you're a child of the Disney 1990s era, pick a song from Lion King (Can you feel the love tonight), Pochahontas (Colors of the Wind), or what have you, if you remember watching those movies with him.

if he had a favourite cd that you used to listen to in the car with him on road trips, use the most vague, generic, favourite song off the album.

failing all else, you have two options: ask him what song he would like to dance to (and grin and bear it for the 2 minutes or so), or use your parents wedding song (something old, for certain). or, you could just do the chicken dance with him?

it's two and a half minutes of your whole wedding, so if it's not going to be comfortable for you, then I would either grin and bear it, or make fun of yourself with him and laugh about it (then again, i also don't know your realtionship with him).

    edit:

@ Barbara B: You know, if you're not going to offer a song suggestion, then perhaps you shouldn't have answered the question. It's not a matter of being a "selfish brat", but a matter of being tactful in the way that brides deal with their parents, some of whom they may have had issues with in the past. And to a lot of folks, the father-daughter dance means something, which makes it that much more difficult to be tactful.

  14. "Let's Call the Whole Thing off" sung by Louis Armstrong and, I think, Ella Fitzgerald. It's that potato/puhtahto song. Basically it's saying we have our differences, but I like you anyway. And it's got a jazzy feel to it--not too fast and not too slow. So you two can still slow dance to it, but it won'tbe too slow. Good luck!
