Hello. Well I live in Bristol and I'm hopefully about to get a job in the British Museum, London. I am going to co,,ute as I like Bristol and all my friends are here.

What I'd like to know, please, is were I to go Bristol- London every day (return) on the train, would I need something called a 'season ticket'? Roughly how much would this cost me, and would I get any sort of young person discount as I am 22?

Secondly, is Bristol- London an OK distance to commute- do lots of people do it?

Finally- how far is the museum from Waterloo, is it walkable?

As you can tell I am only doing my preliminary research, I haven't really got in to the details yet, so any help would be nice- thanks!

  1. Firstly the main fast Inter City route from Bristol to London goes to Paddington Station, not Waterloo, and quite a number of people do commute this distance. It is operated by First Great Western who can be contacted about Season Ticket rates by telephoning 08457 000125; as far as I am aware there would be no discount for 22 year olds. Two stations in Bristol are served by First Great Western: Bristol Temple Meads with a 1 hour 40 minutes journey time to Paddington

and Bristol Parkway with a 1 hour 30 minute journey time to Paddington. I don't know which of these stations is nearest to you. From Paddington to the British Museum you need to catch the Underground - Bakerloo Line to Oxford Circus; then one stop on the Central Line eastbound to Tottenham Court Road and a 5 minute walk down Great Russell Street to the Museum. Alternatively bus route 7 which stops outside Paddington Station in Praed Street will take you straight to the Museum. Either way you are going to need to allow a further 30 minutes travel time from Paddington to the British Museum.

  2. Davey,

Sorry to rain on your parade, but Bristol to London?  You will spend half of your working day just travelling, and most of your salary to do it!

    Badco.

  3. Apparently  Ã‚£5880 per year
