My son received a Sony Walkman mp3 for his birthday and I am having a difficult time figuring it out. I have an iPod and use iTunes and this seems to work completely different. Right now he has no songs on his mp3 and I want to get some on there for him. If anyone has any detailed advice on where to get songs and how to get them on his mp3 I would LOVE to hear it!

  1. If you want to use itunes with his sony walkman, the best way is to use itunes agent which allows non-ipods to use itunes.  If you don't care what software he uses to maintain his library, you can just use windows media player which is probably already on your pc.  I think itunes is simpler and since I use it, I have all my childrens mp3 players using itunes agent with itunes.  If you don't want to worry with a library and just want to add individual songs/albums, hook up the player using the usb connection.  Go to My Computer and look for the walkman as a removable device.  Drag music from the cd to the device.  I recommend itunes agent-it's free and works with all the devices that I've tried. (PSP, barbie girls mp3, RCA lyra mp3, 3 different Creative mp3)

  2. music files from itunes are drm-laden. in order to play them on mp3 players other than ipod and iphone, you need a special program to help strip off the protection and convert the itunes m4p, m4b, m4a music to mp3. i always use tuneclone. my friend introduced it to me. it automatically generates a virtual cd burner, with which the music files can be converted at very high speed.

you can learn more about it from:

  3. well for sony software, itunes wouldn't work.

You'd probably have to use the software that Sony supplied with the product usually in the form of a CD, if not you can always

download Windows Media Player and use that to sync songs onto your MP3.

As to where to get songs, you can simply upload your songs from your Singles and Album CD's from your computer to your MP3. You can also upload your songs from itunes (or new songs that you have bought) to his MP3.
