I would wear them year round. They are more economical, they are less restrictive and you move around better in them. You would be healthier wearing them and you will not get too cold wearing them in the winter. You need to have a good warm coat though. A cool breeze on your legs can be refreshing. Younger children in Great Britain used to always wear shorts to school regardless of the weather.
