I am thinking about becoming a cop after I get out. I am wondering what the steps are? Do I apply to the Academy when my time is almost up? Do I even need to go to the academy? My job in the Navy is not military police, but intell. Thank You for your time.

  1. It depends on where you want to live.  I grew up outside Chicago.  The local PD's would hire and then send you to their academy.  I lived in FL after college.  There, most cops went to an academy on their own and then tried to find a job.

Either way, finish your degree.  It will help.

    Good luck!

  2. YES! u have to go into an Academy and get you POST cetification.

  3. Next step? Lobotomy.  Open head wound.  Severe head trauma of any type that cause lasting lost of cognitive function.  Why would you want to throw away years of military experience and training to become a donut dunker?

Why not apply for Federal service, FBI, HLS, CIA, US Marshal Service, Secret Service; all have military preference.  Pay is better.  The respect they receive is generally earned, much like the hate and disdain given to regular state, county, and local law enforcement.

  4. Go to cop school...
