...if the Australian Visa is approved, do I have to go back to the Philippines then go to Australia? (I'm originally from the Philippines) or can I go to Australia directly from the US?

You have to go to the Philippines.  And if your work permit in the US expires before the Aussie visa is approved, you must return to the Philippines.

That would depend upon the location of the visa issuance. If you can apply for the Australian visa in the U.S., then you won't have to go back to the Philippines.

Where did you plan to apply for the visa? In the U.S. or in the Philippines? If the visa is issued in the U.S., you could take a flight right to Australia.
