  1. i was in the army also in wiesbaden. i would tell you to get a prepaid. no bills coming monthly cuz you never know if you deploy can you get out of the contract. get a peice of **** BMW and ride it till the wheels fall off. you can always get another one. graf is in the middle of nowwhre so your not going to have that much fun but you need a car to get out a travel to other parts of germany.

  2. Hey. First I would say most people in the military have T-Mobile (or called D1). I would say they offer pretty decent rates. On some posts there are even shops from TKS with T-Mobile plans with flat rates. Depends, if you call a lot to other people I would go with flat rate, if you don't, you could be fine with buying 15 EUR credits, now you can buy them in PX for like 22 bucks or something like that.

BMW is not bad choice, you can get Volvo (I prefer Volvo for their safety) and all kind of cars over here and tax free and for good money. I would look more around and pay attention to promotions in Stars and Stripes and Bavaria news.. there might be even used one year old cars or advertised even new promotion offers. Just buy a car what will not be just gas sucking machine :-) since you are in Europe you want to travel a bit and not to worry about 4.5 l 8V huge Dodge taking half of your paycheck just by getting from one base to another..

Graf is not so terrible, there are couple of places to go out and you can call to Lodging in bases around, get nice rate from them, and spend weekend with buddies somewhere else. Bamberg is nice historic city with couple of clubs, Schweinfurt bit more far but offers the same, some chances are in Hanau etc..

  3. BMW are expensive to maintenance once you return to the states....might want to think about that

  4. Go with the pre paid, because you obviously aren't going to be there forever so there is no need for contracts. Also, If a sudden deployment comes up you wont have the burden of knowing you are making payments on a cell phone contract.

Near the bases there are all sorts of opportunities to buy used vehicles, you can find some great deals on Beamers, just ask a colleague who has been there for a while to point you in the right direction.

Good luck soldier, and enjoy your time in Germany.

  5. What.. you got it good, you dont have to go to the field for a month and stay there, unless they changed that now.

Pre paid phone is better of corse.D1,D2,Eplus...doesnt matter, but D1 pre paid has the option to get money back for every call you get,ask the guy you buy it from about it.Im for nokia..but that depends on what you want.Dont get your pre paid phone on post, they dont have a good selection at all.About buying a BMW....be very

carefully buying a used one, they will sell you f*ked up car for a lot more then its worth. They are just waiting the soldiers to come in, everyone knows they are easily pursued..Buy it on the condition that they let you get it looked at by a professional (not someone in that shop of course). If he says he "cant" do that dont let him talk you it to anything. You should find out were they sell used cars on post, usually on car lots by the PX.If someone has to relocate fast you get a good deal.

  6. About the phone: get prepaid phone. Grafenwoehr on the main road is the store (near Gate 3) from vodafone. Go there. About the BMW look at the stars and stripes also I think there is some place, where the people selling their used cars. If you need new BMW check with the Military Car Sales. Living in Grafenwoehr, such a boring place, what you think?

  7. well....first off i would tell you to get a T-Mobile Phone, its the best in germany. and if u get prepaid, u just dont have to deal with a monthly bill and a 2 year contract. For the bmw just look around on Stars and Stripes they will sell a lot of used BMWs if thats the brand you are looking for.

And about Grafenwoehr, mmmm....well...i wouldnt prefer to move there neither..its kinda the neck of the woods, lol and not too much to do there..but hey if u got a car, then u can drive around, Bamberg is nice (i live there ;-) ) and its only 1 1/2 hours away, or nuernberg is only 1 hour away and there are so many other nice spots in Germany..you just have to go out and explore it on your own or with friends...dont sit around post, because then u would really miss out...
