  1. Select Comfort. Yet expensive, but better then a water bed I had since 1991. Go to a Select Comfort store and lay on their beds, You can have the bed soft or firm. By using a control. My back does not hurt when I had the water bed.

  2. The best mattress I've ever had (and will not have any other kind) is a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress. Not only does it completely conform to your body to prevent pressure points (which relieves back pain), there is almost zero motion transfer. That used to be a problem with my wife and I on a standard mattress, because I'm a light sleeper.

We got a California king mattress and box spring, and it was expensive (over $2000). But, I think it was worth every penny.

  3. I've tried all of them from Pillow-tops on down & I will have to say: waterbed!

  4. Buying a mattress is a personal thing, and should be done in the stores. Try them all out.

Ask your physician what he/she recommends for your specific problem
