  1. E-4 and above you get sea pay, hazardous duty pay, family seperation allowance if you are married and when you pass into the war zone  (lat / long) you don't pay federal or state taxes for that month ( you still pay FICA)

  2. All of what the above posters mention. Plus it is TAX FREE. If you're even *thinking* about shipping over for SRB, consider it now. Reenlistment bonuses are free of taxes too. Shipmate, it's like a 18% pay increase just for being at a certain lat/long.

  3. tax free, imminent danger/ hostile fire, if on flight deck you got haz duty, plus sea pay

  4. if Married, family Sep at 31 days.  HFP, IDP.  Tax free once you are in zone.

  5. Well, that depends on a few things. Mind you it's been 11 years since I was on USS Nimitz, been on P-3 aircraft ever since but I doubt it has changed much. When I was on the ship in the you had to be an E-4 or above to get sea pay, if you work on the flight deck you get flight deck pay. You don't have to be in the gulf to get either of those. What the Gulf does do for you is you only have to be in the gulf for one day out of the month and your whole months pay is tax free. For example let's say you pull into the Gulf on March 30th and leave on May 2nd. That would mean your paycheck for March, April and May would be tax free. If you are married you also get family separation pay for every consecutive thirty days you are gone. Talk with the more salty guys in your shop and ask them if the Gulf still brings in eminent danger pay also. I'm not going to guess at what the individual amounts are for each of those special pays are. Some of them you can find out through a quick google search.

Good luck luck on your deployment. Do your self a favor and DO NOT follow the crowd to the bars at every port call. Get off the beaten path with some of your shipmates and enjoy the culture. You'll kick yourself in the *** when you get back if all you have to remember the deployment with is the bottom of dirty glass. You can do that at any joint right here in the States. Remember when you are ashore on Liberty YOU are probably the ONLY American these people have ever seen and therefore, how you act is how ALL Americans act. You are the ambassidor for the United States. Handle yourself accordingly and still have fun.

  6. sea pay and perhaps hazardous duty pay.
