  1. You do not need meat substitutes, but there is Boca, Mornigstar, Gardenburger, Amy's, Tofukey, Lightlife, Yves, and Nates.

For protein: Tempeh, seitan (wheat gluten), tofu, TVP (Textured vegetable protein), lentils, chickpeas, quinoa, spirulina, buckwheat, amaranth, broccoli, mushrooms, potatoes, beans, rice & beans, apples, banana, oranges,  watermelon, seeds (hemp, flax, pumpkin, sesame, sunflower), peanut butter, soymilk, some premade meals (such as Amy's, etc)

  2. MorningStar Farms are great substitutes!! My parents did not respect my decision until I started eating these! They are soo yummy!! I promise! (Especially the chicken nuggets! Of course it is really soy nuggets, but who would call their product that? They are great with ketchup!)

They come in a green box in the frozen foods section! They are so good! Do not try boca burgers! They are disgusting!

Go to this website to see all the products and what they look like!!

  3. Any nut butter such as peanut or almond or cashew etc:

    green pea powder

    raw nuts; hazel, cashew, almond

    soy in limited amounts

    kefir

  4. It's a complete myth that animal protein is the best sort of protein.

I've been a vegetarian for around ten years now and I feel much healthier than I did when I was eating meat!

Have a look at the Viva website.  They have whole sections on the best way to become a vegetarian, all the pros and cons,  lists of recipes, etc.  It's bursting with information!  Have your parents read it too... it's definitely a healthier way to live, and like you say, we aren't eating all those cute little animals!

  5. Tofu is a good source of protein, you can use it almost anywhere you would normally use meat.  Soybeans are high in proten too.  Of course, there is alwasy bocca burgers and toferky which are fake meat substitutes.
