Although we are a church, this conference is open to anyone within our community to attend. I would like to request product donations from the local business in my area. Does anyone know how I can go about doing this?

  1. Start with the business people in your church, even the smallish ones like Avon ladies and Discovery Toys consultants.

  2. First of all you should state where you are. Then talk to the businessman or other people who might donate. Good luck

  3. A lot of businesses have built into their budgets an amount for community service donations. I've helped solicit donations for auctions, and we just went out door to door with a request letter and a copy of our 501(c) form or whatever it's called, the thing that shows you're a legit. non-profit, and anything they give you is tax-deductible. We just did cold-calling, and I was surprised by how open many businesses were to giving something. But some were not. Chain stores often have to get approval from a corporate office, so have a request letter ready, as I mentioned before. As with any solicitation, having an "in" will help, so ask your congregation if any of them have connections.

Be sure to mention that you will mention all donors in writing on materials for the conference, and then do so, of course.

    Good luck.
