  1. A lot of it depends on where you are.

There are go-kart groups all over the world that allow youngsters to get their start. If you're in the US and have some money behind you you can get into 1/4-midgets, USAC Kenyon midgets, USAC Ford Focus midgets, MMSA mini-sprints, micro sprints and midgets, 600 Racing Legends and Bandoleros, etc.

If Stock cars are your preference there are some tracks running low-budget divisions just for the 13-18 year-olds.

If you're into motorcycles and off-road ATV's then you need to check your local groups, the local ATV shop will have info.

If you're into drag racing there are several divisions at tracks all over the US for the Junior Drag groups.

Otherwise I can only recommend that you find some racers at your local track, help out in the garage, show some responsibility and maturity and climb the ladder.

The number one rule is to ALWAYS be willing to learn. Nobody wants to deal with a kid who already knows it all.

  2. Not to be discouraging, but racing is an expensive sport, even if you are able to get sponsors.  My 3 boys race and they love it, but they are extremely lucky that they have the opportunity.

Just to give you some idea.....Not only do you have to get the car (or kart, or whatever you're going to drive) but you also need gear, gas, parts & some way to get everything to the track.  It's not a one-time only expense.  The cars need regular maintenance, different tires for changing track conditions, and God forbid you are involved in a wreck - you'll need more parts & then the car has to be re-scaled & set up again.  (If you have to pay someone else to do THAT for you, that's more $$$)

Seriously, you (and your parents) need to know what you're getting into before you jump in.

  3. hey, i am exactly the same. i am 13 years old and watch nascar sprint cup series racing every weekend and used to gokart in boston. i won a championchip but then moved down to FL. so know i cant go anywhere. i would answer your question but i dont know where you live.

  4. you dont say what kind of racing you want to do.If you have a 1/4 or 1/8 mile track for drag racing then you can buy a car and start doing bracket racing. Its one of the cheepist ways to start and the rules are not bad till you hit the 12.99 sec mark (unless you drag a rag top then its 13.99). if you want to do circle track you will need to spend a few $1000 to get a car together and start out on a local track. To do that you need to go visit the track and talk to them and find out what they require to run there. They will also give you information on were the other "local drivers" run at.

Also there is demolition derby cars wich is fun but not truly racing. For that you just need to find a car, do a little work to make it ready. Derby cars can be had for less then $100 or free if you can get a sponser then cound on spending $200-500 on it.

    Hope this helps
