I am running the wire direct to the breaker box with a cutoff spot (for emergencys) and the total distance is about 30 feet. It is 220.

  1. You should use nothing smaller than a 10 guauge wire. I would recommend a romex style wire, ideally a 10-3 with a ground. Remember, a heater coil is the same a a direct short. It causes all the wiring to heat up slightly.    GoodLuck

  2. Number 8 copper THHN is rated for 50+ amps.   For safety a 6 will be better.

  3. 4 ga in copper,  2 ga in alum...   alum wire should be cheaper

  4. When dealing with electricity. I think it is safer and better to leave it to the experts. Also most home insurance policies will not cover you if the work is not done by a qualified person

  5. I would say 10mm2 or greater, but get a licensed electrician to do it.
