  1. I have done that route by Greyhound bus several times, and I would recommend the Trans Canada Highway, through Kenora, your first nights stop, then Thunder Bay the second, get and early start, then you hit Sault St Marie for the day and Sudbury for the the third night, then take Hwy 89 down through Parry Sound and Barrie then Hwy 400, you can be in Toronto in 6-8 hours depending on your number of stops and traffic from Barrie to Toronto,

If you want a less expensive hotel/motel I would check out the sites for the chains, once you hit Toronto the further north you stay the less you pay, but one night in the big city is not a problem I stay at the Days Inn at Carlton and Church next door to the old Maple Leaf Gardens of hockey fame, see it before it becomes a condo or shopping mall.

I did this trip 3 time in the last 20 year the greyhound never stops except to have meals and change driver, it doe the trip in 21 hours.

  2. www/mapquest.com

You get distance , route and map and time to drive.

then pick out a town midway for a stop .
