  1. Check out this link:  http://massagetherapy.com/home/index.php

If you want to be an MT, then go for it!  But don't expect to earn tons of $$$ up front, it just doesn't happen.  This should be something you really love doing and helping people, then, eventually, the $$$ will be there.  I am just out of school for one year and a half and am now trying to operate my own business.  Sometimes I have 8 clients in one week, sometimes I have 2, so you might want to keep a steady paying job for a while.  Working in the spa industry is cool and you meet tons of nice people.  Workig for yourself gives you more freedom to come and go as you please, but you must be a bit more disciplined in your hours and how you spend your $$$$.

    Good luck!!!

  2. This is a great career and can lead to other careers if you decide to per sue further education after massage school.

I would check in to the massage schools in your area and see which one you like best.

More and more people are waking up and receiving massage as part of their regular self care and to heal injury and some health problems.

Unfortunately there are still some dumb asses like that guy who posted a crude, uneducated response to you. You will have to learn how to screen for this sort of fool and keep them out of your practice.

That is easy enough to do if you just keep the awareness that these idiots still exist and you allow them to ask questions and you offer a clear description of your work and expected etiquette.

Good luck to you this can be a rewarding career.

  3. Come down my place and give me a massage, i'l tell you if you should bother pursuing it lol . . .

  4. Great choice of work and education. In todays world where so many people are turning to natural methods I think it is a great move for anyone to become a massage therapist. Do plenty of research as to what the school offers you as a student and then as a grad. make sure that this is something you tend to do fulltime and make money at doing it. It in general takes 2 years 1 yr of in school taning (books) and then a year in a hands on type of environment. Research your options and learn all you can about the schools. Call and do a tourn so you get a feel of the actual school and dont just do this for one but all of them close to you that offer this schooling. Wise choice I believe since this can lead into sports meds., your own business , physical therp. , spas , hotels and so much more....

  5. Hello, there are many ways to do this.

You can go to a vocational school and get it done there it will be more costly but chances are you will get it done faster.

Or go to a community college and ask about what classes to take to get moving twords this career you are interested in. Community college will also be cheaper!

To learn more about being a massage therapist i sugest just doing some online research!

hope this helps good luck :)

  6. Make sure you check out various schools to see if you'll be comfortable doing the job. Also, make sure the school is Accredited and you will recieve a certificate, I'd say about 10 years ago 500 hours of training was good to have. Now its best if you have 1000 or more! Its the best thing I ever did with my life I met some really cool people and always realized its better to know a trade in this world you can barter for other services which is great! Plus, your going to need the school to guarantee you job placement as it is very hard to get a job in this field. Most Therapists once they have a job dont leave it and if anything end up working at two different places. The best thing to do is create your own business within the Corporate Chair Massage business you['ll make the most money offering this service and you can go anywhere. The most important styles of massage to learn would be: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, Reflexology, Crainial Sacral, Sports, and Acupressure. Take the Aromatherapy class for fun if you can and try to learn as much as you can! The students typically practise on one another and you can learn alot from each other just remember to have fun with it and dont be afraid to massage one of the teachers because they are there to help you and not intimidate you! I think you have made a WISE decision and you will make a lot of money!
