Is it better to buy the camera body only (because I am thinking about buying the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens)? Or the camera with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens?

Either way, what should the price difference be if I am only buying the camera body and not with the 18-55mm lens kit?

  1. There is a hundred dollar price difference - at most stores anyway. The kit lens is priced at about $200 when purchased separately. If it is within your budget, then you might want to consider the EOS 40D. Right now, Canon is offering instant rebates of $200 on that particular model which bring the price a lot closer to that of the Xsi. There is about a pretty small price difference between the two when the rebate is applied on the 40D. B&H has them for $939.95 at the moment - for the body. Just a thought.

  2. if you buy the body only, and decide later you want the 18-55mm lens, you'll have to pay more for it. When you buy it with a kit, you pay less for it, you save like 75$, when you get the lens with a body, it saves you alot of money.

The 50mm f/1.8 lens, is a great one, its 80$, i'm sure you could afford it, that's not that much money for a lens. Most are much more expensive. There's nothing wrong with the 18-55mm lens, except the zoom. But, you should get it in a kit, and them buy more lenses later, like the EF 50mm f/1.8 lens, it's great lens, but i'm all NIKKOR :) HAHA
