  1. I would not reccomend Cartagena, as much as I love the city. Costenos speak with an accent that is readily discernable. I would suggest Bogota since it is the most cosmopolitan. I would also suggest Rosetta Stone and I would further suggest getting your TESOL cert so you can teach English, This will be a great way to interact with native, upper strata Spanish speakers.

  2. Go to Colombia. Their Spanish is much more similar to Castellano than Peru.

    That's all I can say.

  3. I found a website that has a good article on traveling abroad.  They also have a review on a Spanish Language Program that sounds pretty good.  You should check it out:

  4. Colombia is the best place to learn Spanish, their Spanish is the clearest spoken and one of the most proper in Latin America. Bucaramanga is my favourite city, but Bogota is good too, it is historic, big, safe, modern, beautiful, and of course the capital. I never been to the coastal cities, but I heard they are nice, but my cousin told me he does not like Medellin. I personally do not like Cucuta.

  5. i would recommend you Bogota, I live in Medellin, but i reckon Bogota is better coz is more cosmopolitan. Take a course in a university, look for a prestigious one, maybe El Rosario or Los Andes should have Spanish for foreign people, i don't know. Medellin is smaller than Bogota but is also cheaper and here I know about Spanish lessons for foreign people in Eafit (which is one of the best universities here in Medellin). is up to you to choose which is the best option. The accent is different but i don't see a big difference between learning in Bogota or Medellin, but you certainly don't pick a cost city coz they speak faster and coz of their accent is kind of hard to catch something sometimes. I hope it will help you a bit

  6. If you're going to learn Spanish, get Rosetta Stone or a workbook or something, because the Spanish in Colombia is really fast. But for city recommendations, I'd say definitely go to Santa Fe or Cartagena. Everything is pretty cheap, but not that many people spoke English.

  7. costa rica would be beter to learn spanish?

  8. Your best choice is definately Colombia. Chileans have a lingering accent as opposed to the Colombian.

Your best city would probably be Bogota or Cali. Medellin Paisas have also got a heavy accent.

There is formal Spanish language instruction in Cali ( I know) Check the Universidad Santiago de Cali -  USC UNIVERSITY LANGUAGE SERVICES, they also include a language programme for Spanish.

However, if you dislike the sweltering humidity of of the Salsa capital of the Americas, then head northbound to  Bogota where there is also a Spanish language at the public Universidad Nacional. Universidad Nacional, despite it's graffiti-adorned walls everywhere is one of the best universities in Colombia.

    ¡Buena Suerte!
