1. How do they choose people for jury duty?

2. What do you actually have to do in the actual court?

3. Do you have to speak out in front of the court?

4. What is the penalty if a person does not attend?

(I am only interested because I only found out this existed recently)

  1. Jury duty is selected at random from members of the citys/town community, you dont volunteer for it, they come to you at random to ensure fair selection for the defendant.

Your role is to listen to the evidence at court presented to you and decide which way you will find the defendant..guilty/not guilty etc

Penalties for not attending vary from country to country, you can ask for exemptions not to attend provided you have good grounds like child care issues etc or maybe you know the parties involved personally, however work is not one of them as employers under law in most countries have to give you the time off, the courts pick up your salary and expenses...so your paid to be in the jury.

Wikipedia has alot of info as well

  2. Ah well that's simple!

No matter what any fancy wig barrester throws at you, in all Inspector Trussoe Crimes its ALWAYS THE BUTLER WHAT DID IT, some say done it but as for the answer I just did it?

Fact is, what is your durisdiction.

Here in NSW the Sheriff's Office is in charge of selecting names at random in a kind of ballot for duty as a civic role as a citizen, if you are on the electoral role, if your address is correct, this should be enough to be drawn at random. You can not volunteer for duty as some other durisdictions allow, in fact in some cases, professional writers enlist in various states of America. The idea a case is subjudice is irrelevant to the fact after the decision is made, books can be written, but here in NSW it is illegal to make proceeds from the crime committed by the criminal involved, recently in Victoria, ie Melbourne's state a gangster had a series made called under belly where is girlfriend did rather nicely but when you consider thats all there is for good, its not that much?

Focussing on how to get out of jury duty? A sole trader, a person with a religious objection mentally insane, a carer, etc etc exceptions to every rule. No reason why a person taking their medicines with a mental disability can not function in such a role, its more reserved for someone off their brain?

They have a jury role if you get selected, from this they have both sides make so many rejections and choices of who is suitable and who is not. There are always an abundance of choices three roles on a particular date may be eligible and only one called in that night before on a recored message. From about thirty brought in from all walks of life about 12 and I think two spares get chosen. The pay is not all that great, if you are on like $2000 per week and your employer cuts off your jury duty pay after three days, because I think the Milpera Bikie Masacre went over six months, I think a livable wage kicks in? Not that full amount, the jury selection panel on this case was larger.

As for what happens to your job after jury duty, it might not be a good time for an employer to get rid of their employee there are massive penalities to employers if someone is under performing and your civic responsibility is not upheld, Basically its your private arrangement to agree with your employer, but the pay is nominal, lunch used to be provided, cold meal, sandwiches with gormet sandwiches or a hot meal after so many days on the case, my information is historical you might want to check out a web page like Googling NSW Sheriff's Office who control jury duty and go there and look?

The penality is huge just register as a sole trader with tax dept buy avon tupperware or herbalife, these folks are exempt as sole traders, ask first though?

When I was there there were a variety of fines ranging from $1,100 to $2,200 with the State Debt Recovery Office seizing goods for non attendance, have a really good excuse? Basically its not an invite to a party but a summons dont ignore it or hope it goes away, self declare at an insane asylum? Might work? Bit desperate though? Yea, right!

  3. Only know st louis city..

    1) They summon registered voters from the city, 500 people are called every Monday and Wednesday..

    2) from those 500 they choose 24-100 people for each trial.. by process of elimination they whittle that number to 12 plus 1

both sides present their evidence, the 12 people then decide whether the defendent is guilty or not....

    3) unless you are chosen foreman, you are not allowed to speak in the courtroom

    4) In the city of St louis, if you do not show up,a warrant is issued for your arrest...
