I live in the state of Oklahoma and am wanting to open a daycare. I have worked at two seperate centers and loved it. I want to open my own now and am needing to know what all liscense I need and how to get extra money for the things I will need. This has been a dream of mine for awhile and I really want honest answers.

  1. Before you go any further, you need to contact insurance agencies and develop a budget.  Insurance usually costs in the area of $40-55 per week per child.  It ain't cheap.  :)

Licensing requirements is the biggest initial problem you will face.  Business licenses and health certifications are also an issue.   You will need to make sure that you have someone fully trained and ready licensure wise to step in if something were to happen to you.

Also make sure you area needs another daycare at this time.  What are parents looking for pricewise?  Education wise?  Part-time? Full-time care?  Extended hours a couple of days a week?

  2. i don't really know...

i just want to say you are a great person!!

  3. If you need to know about licensing, check with the branch of  government that issues them--probably the state, possibly the city.  Then, sit down and make a realistic budget--how many kiddies you can expect, how many you would need to make a go of it, the largest number you can handle.    You might have to take out a Small Business loan (just as you may need a business license).  Paperwork, paperwork!

Are you on good enough terms with the places you worked that you can ask them?
