I am just starting college, how can I find a good job?

Hello. I am a good student in high school, I am an intelligent and responsible person. I am just done with high school, and starting college. I will be in college for two days the other three I want to work. It seems hard for me to find a good job. I don't want to work in McDonald's, I know I am much more qualified than that. I have always been good at a lot of things, I am very good with computers, fast typist, know most adobe programs.

I know for sure that if I was hired as an assistant at an office, they would like me. But how do I get the employers to realize who I am?

Please save your time, writing judgmental comments. But if you have something smart to say, please do. I greatly appreciate it.

  1. Definitely go to the college life office and look into campus positions and internships. I have had more luck with looking for internships on my own. Internships provide on-the-job training, bild experience and contribute to networking for a career after college. Check your state employment office as most have a area for intern/externships. Many EOE companies use this posting as part of thier recruitment plan. Good Luck!

  2. Why not go to the employment office at the college or university... maybe a professor needs an assistant? or you could work in the admissions office.  Many times colleges and universities hire students.

Other jobs... well I see many listings at www.craigslist.org... go to your city to see what is out there, there sure seem to be lots of jobs.

What is your major?  Maybe you could work as an intern in a company that would hire someone with your major?  If you are an engineering major, sometimes engineering companies hire and pay interns to learn the trade.

The placement office at your college will have listings for many jobs, too.

    Good luck

  3. Contact the college admissions or financial aid office and ask them if they have a work study program. Most colleges do and they can put you to work on campus. They will decide what you're more suited for.

  4. Career Builder is Awesome!  That's how I got my job.  Other employment websites and companies are good too.  Let someone else do the work of finding the job.

  5. Go to the career center at the school.  Lots of colleges hire students to do all sorts of things like working in library shelving books, working in the cafeteria, or even working as a telephone solicitor calling alumni asking for money.  The experience is a good resume builder.
