Don't worry about what every ones says, most of the time they don't know what they are talking about. Join sports/clubs it is the easiest way to make more friends, and good for college.

If you have other friends going to the same school as you, be friendly with them to start with but try to make new friends as soon as possible, the sooner you make new friends, the easier it will be. When i started high school I didnt do this and just stuck with people who i already knew, but half the time i wasn't with them, this really didnt help.  Each class you go to talk to someone different so you get more friends.
