Question:

I am leaning towards one 12" Alpine Type R... dual 4 or 2 ohm?

I think I have narrowed down my decision of one 12" sub to an Alpine Type R. I am using a JL 500/1 amp. The Type R's have shown to be fairly indestructable and can be pushed far beyond the RMS rating. My question is, should I buy one dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm Type R? (In case you aren't aware, the JL amp produces 500 watts whether running at a 4, 2, or 1 ohm load.) Which would be better, and why?

.....I am also still open to any opinions for one 12" 500 watt RMS sub. There are many 12" subs I have been concidering in the 500 RMS range, but I question some of them holding up to the JL. This JL amp does push pretty hard. If commenting to this, please reply w/ a 12" sub in the 500-600 watt RMS range Only!

Let me know what you think on either of these.. Thanks!!

  1. I have two alpine type r 12 4 ohms and im only pushin both of em with a jl 500/1. By far the best subs I've had get the four ohm. You can run them at four or 1 ohm and because the jl amp is stable from .5 to 4 ohms you can run them at 1 ohm and get the most power without overheating the amp or blowing the subs. Four ohm for sure.

  2. I agree with the other guy, except for the specifications that I've read on that amplifier rate it at a lowest impedance of 1.5 ohms. If that's the case run your subs in series to get a 4 ohm load.
