  1. best is to take a lesson but if you don't want to do that then here are a few tips.

1- to stop on your heels you shift your weight equal and dig your heels into the ground, apply weight and pressure to stop, the more pressure you put the faster you will stop.

2- to stop toe-side shift your weight equally and then put pressure on your toes you will stop facing the upside of the mountain, personally i found this harder and scarier because you cant see behind you and your going backwards.

3- to continue snowboarding after you stop just Lean on your front foot (whichever you want the front to be, if you ride regular (left foot forward) then lean and put weight on your front foot and your board will straighten out for you.

if you ride goofy(right foot forward) then put weight on your left foot and your board will straighten out that way.

be patient you probably will fall a few times before you get it but don't give up. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. if you are trying to stop on your heel edge (your heel to the ground) it helps if you some what bend your knees and try and lift up your toes and when stopping on your toe edge point your toes it will help dig the edge of the board into the ground...good luck

  3. BEND YOUR KNEES.

im a certified instructor...and whatever you do, you never want your legs straight.

try not to have both edges touching the snow, usually you just want one edge.

if youre starting to do turns, start the by turning your upper body. your legs will follow which in turn will make your board folllow. there will be a point you face staright down the mountain so you gotta make sure you keep turning your body and to switch your edge. from toe to heel, or heal to toe.

    good luck

  4. try to keep your feet parallel to the base of the trail, and make sure you dont lean the wrong way (ie on you toe edge and leaning backwards)

    fallling on ice sucks 2......

    start on bunny trails

  5. i was the same way earlier this year (i went for the first time). I didnt know how to stop almost all day so i would just fall on the ground. even being new and not knowing a lot of stuff i went to the bigger hills. I finally learned how to stop towards the end of the day.

Its a thing of balance. I couldnt stop because i didnt have good balance on a board. to heel-side stop- you need to bring the board perpindicular with the hill and pull up on your toes. you also need to lean back a little...

what i would try to do is, go to a bigger hill, and start going then trying to stop...go...try to stop.....thats what i did until i got how to stop

    DONT GET DISCOURAGED!! GOODLUCK

  6. Most people have given you good advice so I won't give you anymore.  I did notice a lot of snowboard bashing by skiers who claim all sorts of stereotypes and spread hate.  Isn't it funny that they are so bored that they attempt to answer snowboard questions when they don't ride?  The best is the people who say we (as riders) are inconsiderate and are always in the way.  In all my years of riding it seems like the skiers are the ones scraping up our boards and cutting us off or if they are new to the sport they are the ones going slow and losing control.  I don't like to hate on people different than myself but ignorance is the exception.  Sorry for the rant but thanks for letting me respond to the morons.

  7. TAKE A LESSON!

To stop you need to move so your board is perpendicular to the fall line (across the slope) and then lift your toes/heels (whichever is pointing to the bottom of the hill) to dig the edge in.

This is the first thing you learn in a lesson and the most important thing to know to protect yourself and other people on the hill.

  8. Yeah, get the h**l off the trail until you take a lesson, I am tired of these stupid broke *** snowboarders too ignorant to learn what they are doing, who are careless about everyone else on the mountain, and try terrain outside their ability level ruining the experience for everyone else. One of you punks ran into me the other week, and I knocked him down and skiied off. I no longer move out of the way for you guys.

  9. Find some unfortunate skier to plow into. That's what other snowboarders do.

  10. Turn the board up the hill until you stop. It doesn't matter whether toe or heel side.

  11. It's hard to say what you need without seeing what you're doing. Oftentimes, you can find resorts that give cheap lessons and sometimes they'll throw in rental gear for cheap too! I'd totally take some lessons though, it's a LOT less pain for you and you won't hurt others accidentally. The ONE thing you can do to avoid hurting others is to learn how to stop properly! Good luck and keep on boarding!
