it is regaring the 6-month expiration rule that some countries have. Is Mexico as strict? Any assistance with where to look (only official sites) or a reliable source is welcome.

  1. No there is no 6 month rule for travelling to Mexico.  If you are flying, you must have a pssport, to travel by land you need a photo I.D. and birth certificate.  IF there are  special passport requirements for a country, it is always stated on the U.S. State Dep't consular sheet on that country  and there is no such requirement there.  You will get a tourist card on the plane or at the border. These can be good for up to 180 days...but NO LONGER than your passport is good for.

  2. Mexico is not strict and the mexican tourist visa is only about $20 and as mentioned is good for 180 days. I have been in Mexico now for 5 months  and have been back and forth a couple of times with my ID and birth certificate alone. (driving)

(I don´t even have a pass port- planning to get it on my next trip due to the up coming laws)

  3. If I were you, I would go ahead and apply for a renewal of your passport.  You will have to renew it this year anyway if you want to travel outside the states.  However, if time is a factor for you...you can contact the Mexican embassy to ask them personally.  the website is http://portal.sre.gob.mx/usa/

    Good luck!

  4. Ask the local Mexican Consulate.  To be safe, I would renew the passport.  I just did for the same reason.  It is fast.  Go on-line and get a renewal form from the US Passport Agency.  Get your picture taken and send in the renewal fee.  Do it now and you'll have your passport in May.
