My three months are up and I plan to go back to America in January with my french lover. I want to know what will happen when I leave France to come to the US or if anything will happen when I arrive back to the US. I have my name on the Electricity bill, but I need to show proof that we have been together for one year. And so far its only been six months my name is on the French electricity bill. I am planning on getting my carte de sejour but like i said i have to prove Ive been with my lover which is french for one year. But in january I plan to live back in the US, anyone have any advice for this? thank you

  1. If you're not planning on working (which I imagine you aren't if you're just there as a tourist no visa) then I would say don't worry about it.  I lived in France for 11 months with no visa and never had any problems (and I crossed the border twice a day since I was going to school in Switzerland).  If you get into trouble that is the only time I think something would happen and even then they'll just deport you.  I was able to rent an apartment, have my name on all kinds of bills, take the train, etc. and there was never a problem.  The only thing I couldn't do was get money from the state to subsidize my rent (since my bf and I were students we were in the income bracket to get aid - so he could but I couldn't.  makes sense).

When you leave France in January nothing will happen.  You will board the plane and then when you land in the States you'll go through customs as normal.  There's no "check out" procedure.   So my advice is to not worry about the carte de sejour.

  2. move somewhere else(not the us) maybe another french speakin place, then when ur 1 year is valid move back to the US =]

  3. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO LIVE ILLEGALY IN FRANCE.

You should contact your embassy to get a visa extention !!!

  4. Isn't it possible for you to have a second 3 month visa? Touristic one I mean..??

I'm sure there's legal ways for you to stay in France or to go back in the us.

    Unfortunately I don't know them.

    Good luck!!

France is a nice country, don't you think??!!

    Ahah!

  5. You should have thought of that before you stayed there too long.

  6. I'm confused. Why don't you two do PACS? Then you'd be legal in France.

  7. When you leave France, in the unlikely event customs asks, just say you were travelling in Europe. But they almost never check.

Another thing you can do is go to the local university and sign up for a course, if it's not too late for fall inscription. It's only about 150 euros and you can get a student visa. If you're really worried you can au pair.

And in case I've completely misunderstood yr question and you're worried about US Customs, don't be. I worked abroad for a year without a visa and all they said to me was "Welcome back". They really don't care what you do abroad.

  8. Tread lightly here.  If I were you, I'd get some legal advice.
