  1. Rent an apartment, and then order cribs and little beds. Also, preschool toys, buy formula and milk and lots of apple juice and baby food. Make sure they have toys to play with. Charge $5.00 an hour. Make flyers to start your business. Make sure that the parents will think you will be responsible for their children. Take them to the park for fresh air.  That is all!!!!

  2. You first need to decide what age group you would like to provide service for. You next need to be honest with yourself about your ability to provide care (education, facility, principles, practises) You should go to the licensing board wherever you live and they will have a concise book of regulations regarding the legalities of your centre.  Keep in mind that the age of child has a relation to the physical environment (how many toilets per child, how much indoor/outdoor sq ft per child etc.) and the age also affects the ratio of adult to child.  I cant vote on anything (level 1)so I will write ...posts like the one above should never be considered.  You cant treat this like some one day garage sale.  You really need to put the children first and be honest with yourself about your motivation.  Make no mistake, this is a very demanding job with many rewards.....but little money.  I encourage you to go to a particular website that has always been a great resource. NAEYC is the foremost organization regarding Early childhood education and facilities.  Good luck to you.....we need all of the people we can to help children actualise everything inside of them in developmentally appropriate environments.

  3. Day-care Nurseries are a great way to connect with little kids and raise a few dollars! Put out flyers in your local neighborhood with your phone number and the days that you'll be able to baby-sit. Also leave a maximum amount of kids in a group and a range of how old the kids should be and your set! Good luck with your Day-care Nursery!

  4. Good for you. Make sure you get all the right licensing etc and good staff.

  5. Well, I own a nursery which provides full day care. There are pros and cons. You're never going to be rich, but you can earn a decent salary from it.

Most of your costs will be in paying other people's wages because of the adult to child ratios you have to maintain eg. 1:3 under 2, 1:4 under 3 and 1:8 under 5. Also rent for a room or several rooms to provide the statutory space is very expensive. You will also have to find an area where there are not already too many day care providers fighting for business. The local authority and Ofsted standards are higher than ever before and you need to be qualified yourself or employ qualified staff.

Having said all that, working for yourself is so much better than being employed by someone else, and two days in a day nursery are ever the same. I love my job, despite the draw backs.

Get some experience in a day nursery, if you haven't already. Good luck! :-)

  6. Check with your local job and family services and they will get you started with licensing and rules and regulations.  Good luck.
