I am looking at a Maxum MX 1800 Boat.?

Does anyone have one of these and how would you rate it

i would rate it low... the Maxum MX1800 is mass produced in Mexico.... the dealers have to order them by the truck load. they are an entry level boat with few options.

Maxum is owned by Brunswick corporation as well as many other boat lines. just like with cars company's they have a low end car and a high end car... the lower end cars don't hold up as well nor do they perform as well...

if you are interested in a low price but quality 18' bow rider, i would look into Sea Ray... it too is owned by Brunswick Corp. but it is a little higher on the quality side... all Sea Rays are hand crafted here in the United States...

It depends on where and how you plan on using it.  We find that a lot of boats like these are not built to stand the constant immersion in salt water.  For fresh water they are a fairly well built boat.  We see quite a few gelcoat flaws and substandard fasteners in most boats that are mass prooduced today.  The quality of stainless steel used does not prove to be up to snuff for salt water use, especially in the transom area.  If you trailer it be fanatical about removing salt from it after every use.  

  All in all,  there is not a whole lot of difference in most of the Regal, 4 Winns, Rinker, Chapperal, ...   They use mostly the same engine packages, quality of hardware and manufacturing style.  

Some of the older boats were much better built and can be a steal.  Old Whalers, Gradys etc

Maxum is built by the same company as Bayliner.  They do upgrade some of the items such as vinyl and gelcoat but all in all a Maxum and a bayliner are both US Marine boats.  Not my first choice.  Most of the boats are very similar but you need some research first before buying.  Engine wise I would recommend Volvo Penta as opposed to Mercruiser.  The drives seem to last longer.  www.jamminjetskis.com
