I am looking at buying a kitchen table and it is made of birch. Is this a good wood for a kitchen table?

Yes it's a very good wood.Used to be used a lot in Norway for building houses etc.

very good wood.  If you don't like the wood aspect of the table, paint it and decorate it.  have fun with it.

Native americans used to make canoes from birch bark.  It must be strong wood.  Has a really nice grain and if you are lucky, yours has birds eye features, small grains where very small knots had formed.  They give it a really nice look.  The sin would be to buy one or after buying stain it dark.

it is a strong very dense wood.

Birch is a softer wood. It will show dents easier. I had birch woodwork and cabinets in my last house. They told me they were comparable to oak in quality.
