I am looking at living inTaiwan for a year, next year and I need my own health insurance...

... how should I go about doing that? Should I only get health insurance?

  1. I am assuming that you are in the U.S. First, you will want to keep your individual major medical policy here at home. Because it only covers emergency treatment overseas you will want a "Patriot International" policy as well.  See link below.

  2. Do a Yahoo search for the following term, "expat health insurance."

    You'll find a selection of companies that offer health insurance to people who are traveling abroad. You can find quite a few plans that last for a year.

    For example, at ( http://www.globalinsurancenet.com/defaul... ) you'll pay between $1,200-1,500 if you're a 20-year old female going to Taiwan. And that's with a $1K deductible.

    You probably only need travel medical insurance, but global medical insurance might be better.  Just depends on the circumstances.  Travel Medical will run about $40-$70/month depending on the coverage choices.
