I am looking for Window AC/Heater unit for second story bedroom.?

Could some please give me recommendation on the Brand and Model# for Window AC unit to purchase?

I would also like to know the what is BTU is stand for and it is better to by higher BTU or Lower BTU?

Which company makes the best energy efficient AC/heater unit?

All I know is don't buy Whirlpool.  I haven't even had mine for 2 years and I'm having problems.  I think Freidrich is good, as well as Frigidaire and GE.  BTU stands for British Thermal Unit - the higher the number, the larger the room the A/C is capable of cooling, but also the more energy it will use and the more expensive the unit will be.  You should be able to look up what BTU is appropriate for the area of your room.

GE, Frigidaire, Kenmore, and Haier are the most popular brands.

The BTU is the manufacturer's rating of cooling capacity.

All except the Haier are excellent at handing brownouts. All have a built-in timer and a remote control. The Frigidaire, which is the only one of these that doesn't have a slide-out chassis, but has a dirty-filter indicator light.

Remember if the unit is too big it will cool the room but will not remove the humidity. Measure the room and when you go to buy one tell the sales man he should know what size to sell you. I have ab 8,000 btu in my bedroom about 10ft x 12ft x 8ft.
