  1. I got a used Abetta for about $100 for when I want an easy lightweight saddle.  It is fairly comfortable and extremely lightweight.  It is lighter than my aussie.  I bought it as a temp saddle while I was looking  and even though I found a good saddle I am going to keep it because it is so versatile.

  2. well think about the size of your horse and then go from there. if your horse is very large he will need a bigger saddle which means that it will cost more $$. if your horse is small or is a pony

(pony is under 14.2 hands) you might be able to get a smaller saddle which means less $$. if you want to get a cheap saddle get a second hand saddle. hint hint western saddles are sometimes cheaper than regular English saddles. also you want to find a saddle that is comfortable to you and the horse. hope this helps

  3. Hello,

    My input:

eBay....BUT, stay away from most of the "off brands"

Most of these cheap saddles are poorly made and don't fit horses very well, and hold up.  YOU are much better off getting a USED name brand saddle.

BUT< I did come across something worth looking into:

    http://stores.ebay.com/bestsaddleprices

THIS is a GREAT seller, and they ship FAST!!!!  I purchased a Rico saddle from them and it was retail priced at $1800 and I got it for $825 including shipping!  THAT was a BRAND new, unused saddle!  AND it is HIGH quality!

Just look around, and make CERTAIN if you buy on eBay to check out the sellers feedback scores and check to make certain PayPal will back up the FULL price of the purchase!

  4. if you want a cheap saddle look for used saddle and the smaller the saddle you get, the lighter it will be. if you are small your saddle wont weight as much. it all depends on what kind you want. look for wintec saddles

  5. Check out some of the cordura saddles.  Several brands are out there and they are light.  They are also easy to care for.

I suggested cordura here because first they are cheaper and second a good cordura can be had for the price of a cheap leather saddle and will hold up better, especially if used heavily.

  6. Many tack shops carry used saddles.  I picked up a nice used saddle at our local shop for 150$.  The nice thing about local tack shops is that many times you can trade your old saddles in and get a different one for less.

You can also try craigslist.org.  We have found tons of super cheap horse stuff here, often there is anything from hay racks to tractors to live horses.  Ebay is another option.

    Goodluck!

  7. try this site. www.saddleonline.com.

  8. I'd go to ebay and look at Big Horn saddles.  They're known for lighter weight and more resonably priced saddles.  Not sure of your seat size or the size of your horse so, couldn't go surfing and find a couple of them for you to check out.

What you probably want is a barrel racing type of saddle because of it's weight.  Don't go for the cordura, go with leather, basically because they hold their value better than a cordura would.

  9. I would definitely check out eBay and saddlery dealers. Most people will have notices on their boards and things. But I got an english saddle that was worth about a $1,000 for three hundred bucks.
