I am looking for a decent quality digital camera / camcorder?

Needs to be a decent quality, compact, and budget friendly. To give you an idea, we are buying 2 to use to keep my husband updated on his sons first milestones while he is deployed and so he can send video and pictures of himself back. It would be nice if it could withstand a little wear and tear as well and operates with memory cards for easy mailing back and forth, any ideas?

Since you want memory card, go with a flash memory or hard drive.

Flip camera.  Compact, and easy to record and email.  It has built in memory so you wouldn't need to worry about tapes.  Just flip up the USB port, plug into a computer and send.
