  10. Please understand - every living creature sheds, whether its hair, fur, scales, feathers or skin cells.  EVERYTHING sheds.

The difference between supposed "non-shedding" breeds and the dogs with standard doggy hair that sticks to everything, like Labradors, is that these "non-shed" dogs traditionally have flat hair follicles that curl and wave.  With this wavy, curly hair, the hair tends to get caught in the hair surrounding it, instead of falling out upon the floor and finding its way into your mashed potatoes.  You will notice minimal shedding with breeds with this hair - these dogs are the poodle, the Maltese, Bichon Frise, Havanese, most breeds of terriers (with wiry hair), and large working breeds like the Bouvier de Flanders.

That's the best explanation I can give you.  Don't count on your dog NOT shedding - it will happen, but of course with a terrific raw or premium/organic diet, weekly brushing and plenty of exercise you can maximize his health and diminish shedding due to sickness or allergy.

When deciding upon a dog, focus first on your family's activity level, your individual personalities and what you'd like to see in a dog.  Then visit http://www.petfinder.org, your local shelter, or contact a good, reputable breeder.  Good luck!
