  1. Virgirnia Lakes....in the High Sierra Region...good for fishing....and there are other lakes around it...

  2. Lake tahoe is amazing

  3. Trinity Alps on the Oregon / California border have many mountain lakes of pure, clear water and few people. No drought this year, they had snow on the ground until May.

The down side is you must hike in to the lakes, but you will be alone except when another hiker passes.

Pick up trail maps at the Ranger Station.

  4. I like ranger c's answer as the trinity alps are really about getting away from it all. You can drive to a campground called big flat, keep your vehicle there and backpack into the caribou lakes. Best camping ever. Now if you want to drive to a lake and then camp, I suggest Shasta Lake. They have many resorts there on the lake. The lake also has many hidden "fingers" where you can getaway from it all, especially if you have a boat. The other thing I live about Shasta is the water is not freezing like Lake Tahoe is.

y favorite resort on Shasta is Antlers resort.

  5. Good luck.

Unfortunately there is very little water up here right now. Most of the lakes are very low. I won't get into my rant about that though. You may try Almanor. Had some friends camp up there last week and they enjoyed it. As to people, well hard to find a spot that there are not crowds.

    Have fun.
