  1. etrade is a great one... pays 3.3 % on savings

  2. A good bank will pay high interest rate and charge no fees.

    The interest rates are sometimes listed in the business section of your local paper.  Bank deposits are FDIC insured up to $100,000 so you don't have to worry about losing your money.

  3. http://www.gmacbank.com/  (currently paying 3.00% APY, $500 to open)

    http://www.hsbcdirect.com/   ($1.00 minimum)

    http://www.ingdirect.com/      ($1.00 minimum)

    All three are good. I like GMACBank the best. All have good service. All 3 are FDIC insured!  No "fees" on any of them.

    You an easily transfer money between accounts and your checking account.... anywhere in the USA. GMAC has a free ATM card with fee refunds (up to $6 a month).

    For checking;

    http://www.everbank.com/  (currently paying 2.23% on checking accounts, $1500 minimum balance, no fees).

  4. You don't say where you live or what you want to use the account for so it's hard to answer your question.  If you don't have any other accounts and want to make regular deposits to your savings account, you should choose a bank that has a convenient location for you as well as no fee for the account.  The importance of the interest rate depends on how much you have to put in the savings account.  Look locally at banks and credit unions.  A credit union will generally have better interest rates and lower fees (if any).

    Good luck.

  5. ING has got an online savings account with no monthly fees.

    www.ingdirect.com

  6. +++++++++++++++I am very well satisfied with my accounts at the "Texas Dow Employees Credit Union" (TDECU) In Lake Jackson Texas.
