Question:

I am looking for a good first fountain pen

In my family, it is a tradition to buy someone a fountain pen for their twelfth birthday (yeah, I know, we are an odd bunch) When I was 12 my grandmother bought me a beautiful maroon Parker 51 fountain pen, which I still use today, despite having collected many other fountain pens, and because of this, I never use ball points any more. I am now raising my sister, and her twelfth birthday is approaching. At this point, she still is not the most caring person with her pens, she looses them, a lot. I feel that may change with a new fountain pen, but I do not want to spend more than $20 dollars, just in case. At her age, her writing style varies a lot. What is a good fountain pen to get her started, for under $20?

Thanks

  1. How about a disposable fountain pen?

If you don't want a disposable one, you may wish to shop at d**k Blick, Pearle Art Supplies, or even Office Depot.

I have been collecting fountain pens for some time and I currently have over 30 of them, and each one is at least 30 dollars. What I would do is buy her a disposable one and see if she can take care of it, and if she can, then buy her a regular one, but that's your call.
