  1. If Glendale, Lake Forest or Poway are close to you (as I researched this for you), there are Villari's Martial Arts studios in each of these towns...I'm from NY, but my daughter attends Villari's Martial Arts here...they teach Shaolin Kempo Karate...they're VERY good, and have locations throughout the country and in Canada...if you google Villari's Martial Arts, you can find the studio you feel is closest to you, and they may have their own individual site for that studio, if not, just look up the main site for Villari's Martial Arts and read about the history of Villari's Martial Arts, Shaolin Kempo Karate, and their founder Grandmaster Fred Villari, and their philosophy, you can either look up the hours of their classes, or you can see their address and phone number where you can call or visit for more information...and I'm sure they will offer some free classes...depending on the studio, anywhere from one class, one week, or one month of free classes, and they sometimes have specials to get started, like a winter or summer special, $99 for two months, free uniform, and free private lesson or something like that...

GOOD LUCK!!!  AND IN VILLARI'S MARTIAL ARTS, THEY SAY A BLACK BELT IS A WHITE BELT THAT NEVER QUITS!!!

By the way, I've come to find out that although Tiger Schulman's Karate is also $99 a month, you have to pay for SEVERAL months in advance (Villari's is month to month, cancel any time).  And taekwondo, although popular, I found out is EXPENSIVE - I know someone who sent her kids for awhile, and she payed $179 a month per kid, and $179 per kid in the beginning for protective equipment, as it is a FULL contact sport, even while learning in class, and Villari's emphasizes no contact in class (competitions are different though!)  Well, I and a lot of others throughout the country REALLY value what Villari's has done for their children.

But, AGAIN, GOOD LUCK, whatever you choose!!!

  3. lol @ villari

sorry, nothing personal, but i was never even remotely impressed with him or his students. infact there is ALOT of talk about him being ...well a fake. sure he studied kempo with Nick Cerio but thats about all he can claim legitimiately from what i hear from some high ranking kempo guys i know. he talks alot of nonsense and seems to try to make people think he's mysterious and has some otherworldly knowledge. that's completely against what kempo is about.

go here...http://maps.google.com and type in your location. then type in karate, judo, etc..or martial arts...and see what comes up.

  4. My website has a full list of martial arts schools in southern california.

If there isn't a city close to you in there, there is also tips on how to find and pick the right school.  That is just as important as choosing the style you want as well.

  5. Try Claudio Franca Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has over 30 years experience in jiu jitsu and everyone in his school is very respectful. They offer classes for kids and Claudio has kids himself.
