I want to sit outside and be somewhere relaxing and scenic. Pricing means nothing, as long as the food is decent, the scenery is interesting, and it is NOT touristy.

  1. montanas

  2. A great many places have tables out front but gardens are much better. They are all over, and touristy is in the eye of the beholder.  You can just go to SoHo or The Meat Packing District and pick a place with a sidewalk cafe or a sign that says 'the garden is open'.  I ate in the garden of The Mermaid Inn on 2nd Ave. between 5th and 6th  with friends on Sunday and had fun.  They are a seafood place with a good wine list and the usual and specialty cocktails.

  3. if you are just looking for drinks - try some of the many rooftop bars manhattan has to offer.

Plunge Bar @ the Hotel Gansevoort - rooftop hotel bar in the meatpacking district.  overlooks the hudson river.  great views of teh sunset @ dusk.  Trendy and expensive drinks.

230 fifth - like the gansevoort, but ontop of an office buildingin lower midtown.  has a panoramic, breathtaking view of the midtown skyline (empire state building, chrysler building, etc)  Trendy and expensive.

Empire Hotel - another rooftop hotel bar.  just opened recently so the crowds aren't as large.  has a view of the hudson on the west, and central park on the east.  located on the upper west side, near columbus circle

  4. Bryant Park Grill

    Boathouse at Central Park

    i Trulli  (garden)

The problem with a lot of sidewalk tables is inhaling bus and car exhaust, horn honking and crazed homeless people panhandling.

  5. Anywhere  in  Manhattan,  they  have  in  and  outdoor  places  to  have  drinks,  try  downtown  by  the  seaport.

  6. STAR BUCKS

  8. There are lots of locations on the Midtown West & Upper West Side.  Here are a few of my favorites (varying scenes and prices):

Sheep Meadow Cafe in Central Park at W 69th St

Ocean Grill - Columbus Ave btw 78th & 79th St.

    Monaco - Amsterdam at W 80th
