  1. Wow!  You're in Paris!  go out the door, turn left or right, and walk about a block or two, and you're going to stumble on something good!

Maxim's is one of the most expensive restaurants in (Maybe the whole world) Paris, and I'm sure, really REALLY good!  Plus you've got that incredible atmosphere.  just search for their website.  I looked it up...really nice!

    La Tour D'Argent....even more so.

If you want a really neat, French experience, le Moulin Rouge (looked up all three - this one has the burlesque floor show, and really is less expensive, yet you're getting that can-can etc., floor show, if you don't mind possibly some risqué bits).

Seriously, just search Paris-restaurants, and you're bound to come up with something really neat.

Ok, this isn't where I found those, I searched them by name, but here's a list for you:

  2. You'd probably spend more time making your choice than anything else.

There are far too many good restaurants in Paris.

    This could help you.

I think it really depends on your budget.

One good thing I did was a dinner cruise all along the Seine.

It was for my wife's birthday as well ! She loved it.

  3. Taste wise, all restaurants have great selection.  The french pride themselves on the taste of their food.  Having said that, you are left with scenery.

Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart) in Montemarte is a nice place to go, it has a beautiful church on top of a hill overlooking Paris, nice to go at night.  It may get a bit of traffic, but there are restaurants outside in the plaza there, its very alive, with lots of artists wanting to draw your picture.  If I remember correctly, they had a good selection of food there.

Eifel Tower has a restaurant on the second floor as well, never ate there, but its got one heck of a view.

  4. We've had some of the best food in Paris at L'Epi Dupin: 11, rue Dupin; metro: Sèvres Babylone; 01 42 22 64 56; great food; nice staff; intimate; reasonably (for Paris) priced; reservation almost always required. (We had a very romantic Valentine's Day dinner here!) If your culinary French isn't that great, study the menu outside for a few minutes (or more!) before you go in! Then you can concentrate on the specialties of the day that your waitperson will explain to you!

p.s. AND if your wife's b'day happens to be on a Sunday (and you probably know how hard it can be to find an open restaurant les dimanches...) I'd recommend Monsiur Lapin; 11 rue Raymond-Losserand; metro: Gaîté; open for lunch and dinner; warm & cozy; again reasonably priced (for Paris!); good rabbit (lapin!) especially with the lemon sauce!
