  1. Type in your zip code into any of the following:

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site,

    http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

  2. My experience with the Red Cross has been very positive.  (Despite the "Cross" in its name, it's a secular organization.  The cross symbol references the Swiss flag, not the Christian religion)

  3. Consider locating a Family Resource Center, which helps the community in a 'grass roots' manner, directly impacting the citizens in your neighborhood.

    Keep up the good work.

  4. Thats wonderful that you want to give your time and money.

Try volunteering at your local hospital, or nursing home.

Also any of the Politians would welcome a volunteers time and money.

Good luck. Hope you find something fulfilling.

  5. I guess that wouldn't extend to supporting a guinea pig sanctuary in Sheffield U.K. would it?

    otyhee x*x

  6. We run a Horse Rescue out of Joshua, TX (South of Fort Worth). We are a family run (completely run by donations) rescue. We are always looking for donations and for people to come out and volunteer at the ranch. We have 12 rescue horses right now.

If you are interested please feel free to email me:

    passionhorsevolunteer@yahoo.com

Thank You for wanting to make a difference :)

  7. Animal shelters, Boy/Girl Scouts, Big Brother/Sisters.....  You could even keep an eye on your local newspapers and watch for articles featuring charities in your area.

  8. http://www.volunteermatch.org/

    This might help you.  :-D

  9. What about Amnesty International?

I often find that I want to help those overseas in "Third World" countries, more than I do those in our home countries in the West, as their need is greater.  They often do not have the rights to protest or the time/resources to campaign for better rights/conditions that we in the West often take for granted.

Organisations like Doctors Without Borders and the Red Cross do fantastic work in these overseas countries, but from my limited understanding, I think the most you can do from your home country is to help them with fundraising.

Amnesty International may give you a chance to help more directly, as you will be involved with campaigning for human rights directly, by writing to the leaders of these "Third World" countries.

You have a personal understanding of what it is to be g*y. And you may share in my sadness (to put it mildly) over the hanging of g*y people in Iran, and other countries which also persecute g*y and L*****n people.

There are other human rights groups such as Human Rights Campaign or Human Rights Watch, which I believe are based in the US.
