I am looking for a good surround sound system to hook up to a 42" Panasonic TH-42PX80U?

I just purchased a 42" Panasonic plasma (TH-42PX80U) and I now want to have a surround sound system to hook up to it. I know that the home theater's in a box are not a very good deal, but I am not sure where I should start in terms of a receiver, speakers and a sub woofer. I am trying to keep the price as low as possible and am just looking for a good sounding system.

What inputs, features, etc should I be looking for, I do not know very much about home theaters and am just looking for some advice (other than the salesman's who may just be looking to make a quick sale.)

THANKS A LOT

  1. A lot of it depends on the size of the room you are going to be watching the tv in.  Unless its a really large room,  you can get a good system for a pretty good price.  Most of the newer surround systems have all the features that you will need.  I would buy the componets seperately though.  Your right about buying one of the box type systems.  It's hard to upgrade on those.  Buy as much as you can afford and you should be happy.

  2. The Sony Bravia lineup is really the best thing for the money by far. I have owned and sold many surround sound systems. This is a great model that lots of people seem to love and can cost you less than $200. Sony Bravia DAV-HDX265.
