My current bike came from Toys R' Us. Idk why. So far in the past two days the chain has fallen off the front sprocket three of four times and I'm done with it. I've had it 'bout a year. I want to be able to do trail riding with it, but it needs to be able to go over small to medium size trees. Pretty much my case is that I like to go down into the local metro park and ride through the makeshift bike trails. It needs to be rugged. I only want to spend between 300 to 450 dollars. HELP

  1. yeah definitely Iron Horse maverick would be good bike to start. they make good beginners bikes without the price of a typical brand name bike.

Also try to look at the Specialized Hardrock, they are also great bikes for beginners. This company has been one of big dogs around the scene making bikes for all levels of riders.

  2. Look at Trek, Specialized,Giant, Cannondale,Raleigh, and a few others.

  3. Did ToysRus assemble the bike?  That might be one problem.  I bought my current bike, a Schwinn, from Walmart on April 1st this year and had problems immediately.  The reason is, that when you buy them assembled from a major retailer, it was assembled by some John Doe who had to assemble way too many bikes in way too little time (no offense, John Doe) and for little pay.  Anyway, I took my new Schwinn to a friend who is quite the backyard mechanic.  For just a couple packs of smokes and a two-liter bottle of soda pop, he made all the proper adjustments and it's been working like a charm ever since.  I might add that I bought my bike for only $170 brand new.  For $300-450, your expectations will obviously be higher.
