You didn't mention the age of your kids or your budget but if your kids are under 12 and you are willing to pay a bit extra then Great Wolf Lodge is a great option.

Try Courtyard by Marriott.  nfcourtyard.com   it is a really nice hotel and it offers 2 room family suites. There is an indoor/outdoor pool, arcade room, fitness room. The hotel staff is SUPER nice.

As for location...you cannot see the falls from the room, it is quite a walk. However! It was REALLY close to Clifton Hill (the tourist area of Niagara Falls). Kids really enjoy that area a lot, and all you do is walk down the street a couple of minutes and the hill is there.

The hotel also offers a complimentary breakfast buffet every morning. And there is also a shuttle that will drive you to various points of interest around Niagara for free. It hits the two casinos, Clifton Hill, Marineland.

I loved it.
