try your local city and parks organization.  They normally have the low down and probably even host rec. leagues.  I know I am in a fairly small town and we play rec. vb leagues 2 times a year.  Once you get in they will continue to send you info on a variety of other leagues.  We have flag football, softball, kickball,volleyball, and baseball.  So there is something for everyone.

Yankee League is an adult weekend volleyball tournament league.  They also have a list of leagues around Massachussetts.
