My mom had an old Sunbeam cookie press that came with some recipes for cookies, mints, and cheese straws. I cannot find the booklet anywhere (it was blue), and I really would like to use the recipe for cheese straws that is in the booklet. Does anyone have that booklet that can provide me with the recipe for cheese straws? It would be SO much appreciated!

  1. Here's the Sunbeam website if you don't get any responses with that particular recipe (I've not been able to locate it):

    And, here's a recipe from the Mirro cookie press that you might like:

    MIRRO CHEESE STRAWS

    1 cup flour, sifted

    1/2 tsp baking powder

    1/2 cup butter or margarine

    1 cup (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese

    2 tbsp cold water

    Sift flour and baking powder into a bowl. Cut in butter and cheese as for pie crust, using a pastry blender or two knives. Add water and mix well.

    Using star plate, make cheese straws by holding press in semi-horizontal position and form dough in strips on ungreased cookie sheets. Cut in desired lengths.

    Bake at 375 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.

    This one also seems pretty good;

    A half pound of grated cheddar cheese

    One cup multipurpose flour

    1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

    1/4 cup butter

    A dash of salt

    Cream the butter by whipping it until soft and fluffy.

    Add salt to your sifted flour and blend thoroughly.

    While whipping the butter, slowly add the grated Cheddar cheese and flour. Mix thoroughly.

    Sprinkle the cayenne pepper into the mixture and work it into the dough. Knead the dough until smooth.

    Flatten your dough and use a knife to it into the shape of straws approximately four inches in length.

    Bake for seven minutes on a cookie sheet at 375 degrees or until crisp and brown.

    And this one;

    8 oz. sharp cheddar cheese

    3/4 cup butter

    2 cups flour

    3/4 tsp. salt

    1 tsp. cayenne

    Grate the Cheese: You may be tempted to purchase pre grated cheese but grate the cheese yourself. It will be stickier and will blend better.

    Combine the cheese, butter [at room temperature], salt and cayenne. Using a heavy duty mixer mix until all ingredients are well blended.

    Gradually beat in the flour just until blended. Don't overbeat the dough.

    Fill a cookie press canister about 3/4 full and select the star shaped disc to press through. Following the cookie press' instructions, press long straws onto parchment lined baking sheets. Carefully cut at two inch intervals.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 11-12 minutes. The straws should not be allowed to brown; they should be very "cheesy" looking. yield: 5 dozen
