I am looking for a small SUV approximately $30,000. Wanted a Jeep Cherokee, but mileage is horrible. Help me!

So, I want a car that looks similar to a jeep. I drove a jeep, and it was awesome, but like I said, mpg was atrocious. want a car that is easy to drive, meaning it accelerates good, manuevers well, and I can see all around the vehicle while driving. The Nissan Murano isn't as good with the all around vision as the consumers say. I like the Lexus SUV, but not the price. I used to own a Neon SXT, and I love it, but I outgrew it. I want the vehicle about the same size as a cherokee. Can anyone help me?

Check out the '09 Subaru Forester or the '08 Outback.  They both have the same engine.  The '09 Forester looks like an SUV, but it is a little smaller.  If you really like the Jeep look, an older Forester may be the way to go.  The Outback looks more like a car, and it may be a bit cheaper.

We just bought a '09 Forester for $21,000 including an automatic transmission (standard is $1,200 less).  They also hold their value MUCH more than other vehicles.  For an AWD vehicle, it gets decent gas mileage.

After looking at 2-3 year old Foresters with 30,000+ miles on them, we discovered that new ones were only a couple thousand more, and still way under your $30,000 expectation.  We know a few Subaru Outback owners (one of them is even a mechanic), and they all absolutely love them.

Get American. They are really great, then he might change his outlook on American cars.

How about the new Subaru Forester?

Best SUV in it's class and you can get a fully-loaded Limited, including a turbo and 24 mpg for about $28,000.

Look into the Honda Civic or the Toyota Rav-4. Both can be found for just about or under 30k. They're safe, reliable, stylish, and good on gas.

Ford Escape

Ford Edge

Toyota Highlander

Nissan Rogue

Toyota Rav 4's are hard to beat for quality and mileage. Suv;s suck for mileage no matter what you get but that one isnt TOO bad.

A used Mercedes ML 320 cdi diesel will give that over 30 mpg,and tow the devil out of h**l.

Check out the Ford Escape. It's available with a four-cylinder, 16 valve, aluminum block, Duratec engine that gets 28 mpg. Base price $19,140.

I own a Ford Ranger with the same engine, and it gives good performance and fuel economy. Ford makes a quality truck.
