Not quite sure what you mean - but travel agents have nothing to do with frequent flyer miles -the only thing they would do would be to book your flight with YOUR flyer miles.

In order to qualify for miles you have to decide which airline you will most likely use, then apply for a credit card - i.e. Visa, United Miles card.

The best card to have is a Capital One card as they have no restrictions and miles apply to all airlines.  

Which ever you choose there will be an annual fee.  If you fly a lot it would be worth it - if you are only an occasional flyer, you may want to think about it.

I have 2 such cards cause I travel extensively and charge everything on the cards to earn miles.  I've never paid for a long distance flight in years - but I do save the miles for an out of the country trip not a short one.
