I have a 20 yr old pioneer 330 watt receiver that will pound the pictures off the walls with 3 ft floor speakers..that said I have NEVER found a surround sound system that will even come close to the db level i am accustomed to. How can a 20 yr old receiver still be louder than a 1000 watt 5.1 surround system?

  1. The reason your old 330 watt receiver is louder than say, a $250 Sony 1000 watt 5.1 system, is your receiver was honestly rated. The new systems are rated in bs watts. You aren't going to get 1000 watts from a little 5lb receiver. The truly hi-powered receivers are going to cost you quite a bit though. I think Onkyo and Yamaha make the best 5.1 HTiB in the $300-$600 range. They still probably won't be quite as loud as your old pioneer, but you get what you pay for with them.

  2. U want really massive sound, try adcom power ampilfiers and sound processors. They will crush Denon, Onkio or whatever they put in Best Buy stores. http://www.adcom.com/prod/shopdisplaypro... Your neighbors will love you. You will need this preamp too http://www.adcom.com/prod/shopdisplaypro...

  3. Buy a amplifier

  4. Take a REAL CLOSE look at these amplifiers from DENON....

First, they don't make 330 watt amps anymore, but what they do is they use massive transformers to deliver MASSIVE current to drive the outputs with plenty of current !

THAT will pound your walls !

But keep that Pioneer, those are a rarity nowadays....
