I wish I could fund all the missions I want to go on, but I am not exactly rich. I am a college student and I want to finish my degree (off-line) so the 27 months the peace corps requires is a little to long for me. Are there any programs that don't require you to pay $1000 or more that only last about two or three months? Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

  1. It would not be cost-effective to send you abroad, spend three months teaching you the language, history and culture of a country and have you come back after three months of work. If you want to work without training, it is cheaper to hire a host country native; most developing countries have lots of unskilled people.

VSO has shorter terms. Google "VSO Volunteer".

  2. call your local city govt and ask them where you can find them they can tell you.

  3. Unfortunately Ive found that it is difficult to find a program that will allow you to volunteer for free.  The fee usually covers things like transportation, international calls, housing...etc.  Things that you would probably end up paying more for when all is said and done.

Check this website there is an explanation for why one must pay to volunteer.  http://www.volunteerinternational.org/
