Question:

I am looking for a way to do a subtle way to faux finish my walls?

I live in a 90 year old house and we are redoing our bathroom. I have painted it a gold color. I am really happy with the color but am disappointed with the amount of imperfections you can see. I am looking for a way to faux finish the walls without changing the color too much but enough to hide the uneven surface. Any ideas? The walls are white wainscotting 1/3 of the way then the gold is the rest of the way.

Thanks

  1. Faux finishing may or may not disguise the wall flaws. If walls are significantly "uneven" probably no amount of painting will hide the problem. FYI I used the Ralph Lauren suede paint in my living room and it looks great but I sure wouldn't rely on it to disguise an uneven wall!

But if you think faux painting might solve the problem for you, here are a couple faux finishing techniques to consider:

    two-tone patina

  2. A really beautiful way is called suede finish, Ralph Lauren brand sells the best paint for this and you can find instructions wherever you can buy the paint (home depot and Lowes carry it) The result is a velvety or suede looking wall.  Ralph Lauren paints also have some other great and subtle faux finishing tips.  Im not sure if they have a paint website, but you could google ralph lauren paint and see if you get results.  Hope this helps, good luck
